Glycerin

INCI-Bezeichnung: Glycerin

Origin

Glycerin (also called glycerol) is a naturally occurring substance found in all vegetable and animal fats. COSMENIA exclusively uses vegetable glycerin, which is obtained as a by-product during the production of vegetable oils (e.g. from coconut or palm kernel fat). It is vegan, sustainable and biodegradable.

Production

Vegetable glycerin is produced by saponification or transesterification of vegetable oils and fats. The result is a clear substance with a slightly sweet smell, which is used in cosmetics as a moisturizer and texture enhancer.

Effect on the skin

  • Intensely moisturizing: Glycerin is a humectant – it draws moisture from the air and binds it in the skin.
  • Strengthens the skin barrier: It supports the natural protective function of the skin and reduces moisture loss.
  • Soothing: Glycerin has a mild and soothing effect on irritated skin.
  • Improves texture: It gives products a pleasant, non-sticky consistency.

Suitable for which skin type

Glycerin is universally applicable and suitable for all skin types – from dry to oily, from sensitive to mature.
