Zinkoxid

INCI-Bezeichnung: Zinc Oxide

Origin

Zinc oxide is a naturally occurring mineral derived from zinc ore. It is one of the oldest and safest ingredients in cosmetics and has been used in medicine and skincare for centuries. As a mineral UV filter, it is one of the few substances that broadly shields both UVA and UVB radiation.

Production

Zinc oxide is produced by the thermal oxidation of zinc. For cosmetics, it is used in various particle sizes – from micronized to nano. At COSMENIA, only non-nano zinc oxide is used, which remains on the skin and does not penetrate the body.

Effect on the skin

  • Mineral UV protection: Zinc oxide reflects and scatters UV radiation and provides reliable broadband protection against UVA and UVB.
  • Soothing and anti-inflammatory: It alleviates irritations, redness, and inflammations.
  • Antibacterial: Zinc oxide inhibits the growth of bacteria on the skin.
  • Skin-friendly: As a mineral filter, it is particularly well suited for sensitive skin and becomes effective immediately after application.

Suitable for which skin type

Especially suitable for sensitive, irritated, and acne-prone skin, as well as for children and people with intolerances to chemical UV filters.
