Origin
Castor oil is pressed from the seeds of the castor bean plant (Ricinus communis), which is native to Africa and is now cultivated worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. It is one of the oldest vegetable oils in the world and has been used in medicine and cosmetics for millennia.
Production
The oil is obtained by cold-pressing the castor seeds. It is rich in ricinoleic acid (approx. 90%), a unique fatty acid that gives the oil its special properties.
