Vitamin E (Tocopherol)

INCI name: Tocopherol / Tocopheryl Acetate

Origin

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that occurs naturally in vegetable oils (e.g., wheat germ oil, sunflower oil), nuts, and green leafy vegetables. For cosmetics, tocopherol is primarily obtained from plant sources such as sunflower or soybean oil. It is one of the most commonly used antioxidants in skincare.

Production

Natural vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopherol) is obtained by extraction from vegetable oils. It is more effective than synthetic vitamin E and is preferentially used at COSMENIA.

Effect on the skin

  • Strongly antioxidant: Tocopherol neutralizes free radicals and protects the skin from oxidative stress, UV damage, and environmental influences.
  • Regenerating: It promotes wound healing and supports skin renewal.
  • Moisturizing: Vitamin E strengthens the skin barrier and reduces moisture loss.
  • Soothing: It alleviates irritation and has anti-inflammatory effects.

Suitable for which skin type

Suitable for all skin types, especially recommended for dry, mature, and sensitive skin.
