Zinc PCA

INCI name: Zinc PCA

Origin

Zinc PCA is a compound of zinc and pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (PCA), which naturally occurs in the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). PCA is a natural moisturizing factor that is responsible for moisture regulation in the skin. The combination with zinc gives the active ingredient additional sebum-regulating and antibacterial properties.

Production

Zinc PCA is produced by chemical synthesis from zinc and pyrrolidone carboxylic acid. It is a stable, well-tolerated active ingredient that is used in various concentrations in skincare.

Effect on the skin

  • Regulates sebum production: Zinc PCA reduces excessive sebum production and helps to reduce shiny skin and clogged pores.
  • Antibacterial: It inhibits the growth of bacteria on the skin that can cause acne and blemishes.
  • Moisturizing: PCA is a natural humectant that binds moisture in the skin.
  • Soothing: Zinc PCA reduces inflammation and redness in blemish-prone skin.
